While the whole country was tuning into car radios and crusiing to the sounds of Jan & Dean, The Beach Boys, The Kingsmen and others a phenomenal thing was happening in Los Angeles. Mexican American singers and bands were making names for themselves. It started with Richie Valens and continued with Sam & Sham & The Pharoahs, Thee Midnighters, Tierra, El Chicano, and Cannibal & The headhunters.  And today, decades later the music plays on.. many of these bands are still kicking it out.
